New Year’s divine service, Sunday 3 January 2016 was special for the congregations of Kensington Central and South as the year 2016 would not only commence in God’s house, but District Apostle NE Barnes came to serve them.
A beautiful sunny day depicted a festive mood that was evident and could be felt 90 minutes before the commencement of the divine service. The orchestra and choir singing set a solemn tone awaiting the anointed of the Lord. The opening hymn: “I will guide thee” was sung with so much feeling before receiving the text word from 1 Corinthians 15:57, “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ”. Here again we are encouraged not to fear the future, because so easily we could lose our trust in God. Christ overcame death, hell and the grave, and by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit He gave us that same power. Also we are encouraged to be victors over sin, evil and our own opinions which displease God. We should rather fight the Godly fight of Love, Faith and endeavour to enjoy and fight for Unity.
Apostles P Thompson and JG Stephens were called upon to serve along and they encouraged the congregants even further. Bishop AM Lutuli and Shepherd T Cupido, the rector, stood as proxies for the souls in the yonder world.
An appropriate end-off to a divine moment in God’s house culminated in the choir and orchestra performing: “One faith, one goal, One Lord!”
After the divine service District Apostle had time to take some photos with the ministers of the two congregations.
Too soon this blessed moment was over, and everyone left God’s house strengthened and confident in faith.
