Day of the Youth (DOTY) is focused on bringing the youth together and having fellowship with each other. While the rest of the NACCAPE district enjoyed their DOTY on Sunday 13 September 2015, the District Apostle Barnes accompanied by all the Apostles and 300 youth across Cape Town and the Southern Cape served the region of Vredendal and Springbok on Sunday 27 September 2015.
The journey commenced with ±300 youth departing from Erica West Congregation on Friday 25 September 2015 between 12h00-13h00. After a few “pit-stops” along the way, the smell of braai welcomed them when they arrived at the Vredendal Camp Site. They spent the evening showcasing their talent through dance, song and spending time with the ministers.
The youth started their morning off with breakfast ahead of an extremely busy day. There was a community programme planned at various institutions around the area. This included the Vredendal Old Age Home, Vredendal Hospital as well as the Shopping Centre. Here they were able to bring joy to people through singing various hymns and distributing our church Christmas CD’s.
This was followed by a youth meeting at the local school hall which included a question and answer session as preparation for Thanksgiving. This also gave the youth an opportunity to address questions regarding the faith
The day continued with a visit to a church which had recently been built for the members of Nieuwoudtville. This was followed by a visit to a waterfall near the church and a potjiekos competition with the help of the Apostles. The day ended with a youth concert.
The highlight of the weekend was the Divine Service with the District Apostle which took place at Vredendal Primary School. The text word, which was taken from Psalm 139:24 laid the foundation for Thanksgiving and was a beautiful close to the weekend. The youth now look forward to the preparation of Thanksgiving Day!
