Sunday 31 May 2015, saw District Apostle N Barnes hold a special divine service in Erica West congregation.
To this divine service certain congregations in the areas of Apostle M Diedricks and Apostle A Kriel were audio visually connected.
An atmosphere of anticipation could be felt on the morning as members arrived at church. Although it was a cold wintery morning, the warmth in the congregation was tangible. The District Apostle used a word from 1 Corinthians 10:13 as the foundation for the sermon: “. . . but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. ”
The feast of Pentecost could still be felt with the activity of the Holy Spirit very evident. The choir fittingly prepared the way for the sermon and the District Apostle brought comfort to the gathered congregation with the reassurance that, when we walk and dwell in the Holy Spirit, we will always be led to good outcomes in the circumstances we find ourselves in.
After the celebration of Holy Communion the District Apostle served the sacrament for the souls in the beyond. Apostles M Diedricks and A Kriel stood as proxies for this purpose.
Celebrating the years of service of 2 District Evangelists, 3 Shepherds and 4 Community Evangelists was a great feast. These servants worked all over the Peninsula (Cape flats) and lived to serve God. Those who were placed into retirement were: District Evangelists P Kolbe and N Smith, Shepherds A Fick, R Klein and N May and Community Evangelists L Burricks, N Dirkse, E Jacobs and D Moos. The choir as the mouthpiece of the congregation bestowed a wish upon them with the rendition of the hymn: The Lord bless thee. Beautiful red roses were handed to them as a token of thanks.
Ministers were then called to the altar where the District Apostle appointed them to take over the responsibility for new congregations. He wished them much joy and blessing for the new responsibilities. The following rectors were appointed: Community Evangelist Afrikaner (Droëvlei), Shepherd Barendse (Florida), District Elder Eckardt (Uitsig), Shepherd Mabotha (Belhar), Shepherd Booysen (Wesbank Central), Community Evangelist Cupido (New Macassar), Community Evangelist Lot (Beverley Park), Priest Swart (Prospect Hill), Community Evangelist Odendaal (Kalkfontein) and Shepherd Wilson (Kleinvlei North).
The service was fittingly concluded by a powerful rendition by choir, organ and orchestra of the anthem: How lovely is Zion.
