It was a fun-filled and blessed long weekend for more than 200 young people - drawn from congregations in Kimberley, Cape Town, Mpumalanga and Johannesburg -  who gathered in Durban for a Young People’s Soccer Challenge.

The highlight of the long weekend was, however, the divine service on for young people, which took place on Sunday, August 11 at Wentworth congregation and was conducted by District Apostle J Kriel.

The Women’s Day long weekend festivities began on Friday when the District Apostle arrived in Durban and held a meeting with all the District Rectors of Apostle A Page’s area in KwaZulu-Natal at the Umbilo congregation.

Later that evening the District Apostle, accompanied by the Apostle, had dinner with the District Rectors and their wives.

On Saturday the Young People’s Soccer Challenge kicked off at the Fynnlands Sports Club where 16 teams comprising of both boys and girls versed each other in seven-a-side round-robin matches.

The event was live-streamed on Facebook for those who could not make it.

After several rounds of matches, the semi-final matches were competed by from the West Coast Apostle area, a team from Mpumalanga, Durban Central congregation and South-West district in Johannesburg. Durban Central congregation and South-West district team met in a tense final match which saw the South West team beat Durban Central in a penalty shoot-out.

The next morning, the District Apostle held a divine service for young people in Wentworth congregation. During the sermon, the District Apostle encouraged the young people to have fun, enjoy their youth, and remain focused on their natural and spiritual goals.

After the divine service, the young people left with renewed vigour. Those who travelled to Durban from other parts of the country left in the afternoon and reached their destinations safely.

In celebration of International Youth Day on 12 August 2019, the long weekend was filled with activities for young people throughout the NAC-SA region. The Bible word for the YPiC divine services was taken out of Psalm 139:14. The Bible reading for this festive occasion was taken out of Acts 17:22-28.

All in all, the weekend proved to be successful, and the memories will linger in the hearts of the young people for a long time to come.
