On Palm Sunday, 14 April 2019, District Apostle J Kriel served multiple congregations in Retreat East.
Invited to the festive service were members of Retreat East, Retreat West, Heathfield, Muizenberg, New Estate, Southfield, Steenberg and Westlake congregations.
As the basis for the divine service, the District Apostle read a Bible word from Matthew 21:14-15, “Then the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David!’ they were indignant.” The District Apostle said that Jesus restored God’s temple by removing that which didn’t belong. Today He comes to us with His teaching, and it is up to us to accept or reject Him.
As is tradition during festive divine services, a Palm Sunday Bible reading was presented by the Deacon D Wessels. After a beautiful rendition by children’s recorder ensemble, Bishop N Barron was called to serve along.
The divine service was concluded with a rendition of Beethoven's “Hallelujah, Mount of Olives”, after which the District Apostle took time to greet the congregation.
