District Apostle J Kriel arrived in Katima Mulilo, the capital of the north-eastern region called Zambezi just after 08h00 from Kasane, Botswana.
This strip of land, formerly named Caprivi, was renamed Zambezi, after the mighty river that runs through Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. The District Apostle was scheduled to conduct a divine service in Katima Mulilo, on Sunday, 10 March 2019.
Zambezi is home to over 25 000 New Apostolic Christians. The District Apostle was received by Apostle P Liwakala, Bishop L Masule, Del C Mukwati of Kasane, and all District Rectors of the area. A choir presented a welcome hymn to the District Apostle before he went into the sacristy.
This large church in the region was filled to capacity, with 1724 members and visitors in attendance. The Councilor of Bukalo Village Council, Mr C Siyauya, was also in attendance. As a basis for the divine service, the District Apostle read John 11: 39, “Jesus said, ‘Take away the stone’.”
Apostle P Liwakala was called to serve along.
During the divine service, District Evangelist D Matengu Muyunda was placed into retirement. He has been New Apostolic since 1966 and was in the ministry for over 22 years. He served as the District Rector for the Katima District. District Evangelist L Mutumba was then appointed as his successor, with Shepherd P Munembo being made District rector for Kongola District.
After the divine service, there was singing and dancing in celebration of the events that transpired. Thereafter, the District Apostle, accompanied by Apostle Liwakala, returned to Kasane.
