On Sunday 14 April 2019, the NAC Cape Choir and the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra presented Verdi’s Requiem at Silvertown Auditorium.

The New Apostolic Church building in the Cape Town suburb has played host to many concerts in the past few years. Once again, the choir and orchestra presented themselves in the finest form.

Guiseppe Verdi is best known for his operatic works with intense drama and theatrical splendour that is well suited for the stage. His Requiem Mass, written to commemorate the death of Alessandro Manzoni, the Italian poet and novelist, is, in fact, his only major sacred work.

The programme began with "Requiem & Kyrie Eleison" and set the tone for the evening. The deep-felt religious and spiritual emotion in Verdi’s Requiem Mass coupled with its melodic beauty had a powerful impact on those in attendance.
